Christmas is over, and now it’s time to anticipate the start of a new year. To me, this is a perfect time to consider the possibility of the best new start of all — the one given to us because Jesus Christ came and accomplished everything needed for him to be the Savior of the World.
I was 18 when I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was raised in a good Christian home and always kind of believed that God was out there, but I just never felt like I had found him. I tried — I was saved many times, I tried to be a good person, I wanted to live what I was being taught at church, but I felt like a fake. It was only as my good LDS friends began to teach me their understandings of the Bible and how there were even more scriptures from God to understand more that I began to have hope.
Looking back on my childhood and even to my first 15 or more years as a member of the LDS church, I see a path where God was leading me, slowly and gently, from darkness to light. As I take stock of this past year and who I am now, I can truly say that I know Jesus Christ, my Savior, better than I ever have before.
It’s not just that he has forgiven me of my sins — although that’s a huge part of it. As I have been ready, he has given me life experiences, messages through the Holy Spirit, and other things to guide me and teach me and help me understand life from the perspective of his truth. He has literally saved me from the darkness and confusion that marked the first half of my life!
My greatest hope is that someone who happens across my blog will be touched and seek the Savior and the gifts tht he is waiting to give those who turn to him.
