Perhaps one of the hardest things I try to do as I blog is to describe how a talk has moved me deeply and meant so much to me. The talk, “Songs Sung and Unsung” by Jeffrey R Holland, is one of those talks.
If you are long time reader of my blog, you have probably recognized that I suffer from some pretty wide mood swings. I have studied this talk when I feel everything is amazing in this world, and I have studied this talk at times when I have wanted to beg my Heavenly Father to take me out of mortality and let me move to my next stage of existence.
What I like is the implicit idea that heavenly songs are all around us. No matter what our circumstances, no matter what our current trial, and no matter how bad things look right now, if we will focus our spiritual hearing, we will recognize those strains and have the opportunity to be strengthened by them.
During those periods of our lives when we have the strength to join in the singing, our words, our deeds, and our thoughts can be uplifting to others around us. We can be part of the Lord’s force for good on this earth.
